In August the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film will be out in theaters. This one will have a drastic design change from previous TMNT adaptions. Most of the buzz around the internet about the film is negative. Between rumored plots, the turtles new look & casting. I'm a thirty year old male, I grew up on the Turtles. I had the toys, saw the films & cartoon, read the comics, had t-shirts. I still have the four turtle toys from my childhood on my desk.
My favorite adaption of the franchise is the original film. It unlike most adaptions still holds up to this day, the story, costumes, voices. The story was taken from the original comic strips, which helps make it feel genuine. But it isn't as completely grim as the comics, it takes some of the personality of the late 80s cartoon, including the unique colored masks to liven it up. It was still a fun story about family, learning what you should do in life but had some good laughs and was silly. Though it never really went over board with it like the cartoons or following films.
The next pieces will go over what adaptions have done wrong & what they did right. Hopefully Michael Bay's production will know what they are doing even if they gave the turtles mammal features.
